CustomVue LASIK…Technology you can rely on

In his continued quest to provide patients the safest, most advanced method of vision correction available today, leading eye surgeons Eye Physicians of Florida are now performing CustomVue LASIK, a wave-front guided laser procedure with the potential to give patients a higher quality of vision than glasses or contacts. In the FDA clinical trials, 98% of all patients achieved 20/20 vision or better.

This latest breakthrough is a totally new type of laser technology. Not a surgical laser, but a diagnostic laser known as Wavefront aberrometry. WaveScan laser technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in outer space. This technology now allows us give patients a quality of vision beyond the capabilities of prescription glasses or contact lenses.

Our surgeons use WaveScan technology to diagnose and capture unique imperfections in your eyes that were undetectable through traditional methods. This digital information – which is 25 times more precise than standard measurements for glasses or contacts – is then transferred directly into our VISX laser, enabling our doctors to tailor a distinct correction for your eyes only.  This is the first time in medical history that surgeons are now able to measure and diagnose virtually all of the imperfections within the optical system.

Wavefront analysis is a non-invasive diagnostic method that projects a series of light waves into the eye. After traveling through the eye, these light waves are then reflected off the back of the eye and back through the cornea – or front surface of the eye. This projection creates an actual wave of light. Any distortions in the eye will cause the lightwaves to curve.  If the eye had a perfect prescription, the wave would be perfectly flat and smooth. But eyes are not perfect and these curves – or aberrations – exist in every eye. These curves are then analyzed and transformed onto a computer disk, giving surgeons a virtual fingerprint of your eyes optical system.

The information on this disk is then fed directly into the VISX Star S4 Excimer laser, and is used to guide your unique LASIK procedure. This custom laser procedure is called Wavefront-Guided or Wavefront Driven because the Excimer laser is actually driven by the information on the computer disk. This reduces the possibility of human error and results in a quality of vision unattainable by either prescription glasses or contact lenses.
