Epi-LASIK

Epi-LASIK is a laser vision correction technique that combines several advantages of the LASIK as well as PRK procedure, for a safe and effective method of vision correction which can be used even for those who are not candidates for other procedures.

The standard LASIK procedure requires an incision to cut a small flap of tissue on the outer portion of your cornea. The flap is then folded back and the vision correction treatment is completed underneath with the Excimer laser.

With the PRK method an alcohol solution is applied to the outer surface of the eye which then dissolves the surface tissue cells. Vision correction treatment is then applied to the outer surface of the cornea with the excimer laser. After the procedure, a bandage contact lens is placed in the eye while the epithelium regenerates and heals itself.

Epi-LASIK is a combination of the flap creation of LASIK and the ability to treat the outer portion of the cornea as with done with PRK. The combination of these two methods allows for a surface LASIK procedure.
